On the way to wine (June 2nd)

On the way to wine – June 2nd 2024

Thi s picture was taken while travelling to Montalcino, a beautiful medieval town in the heart of Tuscany. There, I will assist some friends from Texas in experiencing an authentic wine-tasting tour. Montalcino is renowned for its exquisite Brunello di Montalcino, a world-class red wine that will captivate their palates. As I drive through the rolling hills, the anticipation builds for the rich flavours and unique experience that awaits them (yes, I’m driving, thus I won’t have even a single drop of wine, but I will honour the cheese, the ham, the finocchiona, and the ciaccino).

And after the wine-tasting, we will head to Bagno Vignoni, a charming hamlet known for its extraordinary hot springs. Bagno Vignoni is one of Val d’Orcia’s hidden gem: its soothing thermal waters have been celebrated since Roman times. The village square is uniquely filled with a large, steaming pool, creating an ambience of tranquillity and timeless beauty.

The Val d’Orcia is a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site, famed for its breathtaking landscapes that have inspired countless artists and photographers. The gently undulating hills, dotted with cypress trees and medieval castles, create a picturesque setting that epitomizes the idyllic Tuscan countryside. Every corner of this region offers a postcard-perfect view, making it an ideal destination for those seeking both relaxation and a feast for the senses.

Exploring Montalcino and Bagno Vignoni is more than just a trip; it’s an unforgettable journey through Italy’s most enchanting scenery and ancient tastes. The combination of world-class wine, historic hot springs, and the natural beauty of Val d’Orcia ensures an experience that will be cherished for a lifetime. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur, a history buff, or simply searching for stunning vistas, this region has something special.
