Welcome to Val d’Orcia

I don’t quite know how to answer to those who ask me what is so special about the Val d’Orcia.

To say that it is enchanting would be reductive, and it is not easy for me to explain why. I have lived in different parts of the world, and visited many others, but the feeling I get here, every day, of really being one with nature, is something I have never experienced anywhere else.

The hills, the fields, the paths, the villages and hamlets, the cypresses, and the vineyards, form a whole that I cannot imagine more beautiful and involving.

This land overwhelms your body and soul, places in front of your eyes an endless sequel of panoramas that take your breath away, views that seem taken from a couple of centuries ago, corners of pure and absolute beauty.

And then you go back there the next day, and you tell yourself that you know that place, that view, you know them, that they will seem a little less beautiful, a little more normal, because the novelty of the first time has inevitably faded away…

No, not at all. The eyes explore the hills, and they are the same as yesterday. Even the trees, the paths, and the fields are the same.

It is only then that one realizes that it is the skies that make the Val d’Orcia a spectacle that is renewed a hundred or a hundred and fifty times a day, every day. It is an unstoppable carousel of emotions that start from what we see and make our hearts burst with wonder.

The clouds that stain the sky, decorate it, invade it, and constantly transform it, they are a frame for the Val d’Orcia that rivals in beauty the painting itself, and make it even more sparkling, triggering ever new sensations and admiration in the beholder.

That is why it is not easy for me to say what is so special about the Val d’Orcia: it is a splendour that is never the same, from whatever point of view you look at it, wherever you experience it.

A lifetime would not be enough to be satiated by it, but it is an experience no one should deprive themselves of, if only to build memories in which to immerse ourselves when we feel overwhelmed by the burdens of everyday existence.
